City of Istanbul

Istanbul, the only city in the world built on two continents, Istanbul Bogazi ( Bosphorus) has one shore in Europe and the other in Asia, where waters of the Black Sea meet with those of the Sea of Marmara.

Banks

Banks are generally open from 09:00 to 17:00 Monday through Friday. All banks are closed during the weekends and on public holidays.  You will find foreign exchange office close to the Congress Venue,  open 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays.

Shopping

Istanbul is shopping paradise with its Covered Bazaar as well as the modern malls.  Shops are open between 09:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 19:00 on Saturdays.  Shopping malls have extended hours and are open from 10:00 to 22:00 Monday through Sunday.

Credit Cards

All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants.  Commonly accepted credit cards are Visa, MasterCard and Eurocard. Restaurants and shops are generally display signs indicating which cards are accepted.

Time Zone

Turkey is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Restaurants and Turkish Cuisine

There is a wide choice of restaurants in Istanbul offering from Traditional Turkish cuisine to first class international dishes.  There are lots of quality restaurants and fast food shops in the vicinity of the congress facility.

Climate

The Summer in Istanbul is dry and warm, with remarkable blue skies and sunshine. Daytime heights average around 25C  with evenings a few degress less (between 20-23C) . Electricity

The standard voltage in Turkey is 220 Volts, with a frequency of 50 Hertz.

Airport Information

All international and domestic flights arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport.  Airport shuttle buses (HAVAS) depart every 30 minutes, operating between 06:00 – 23:00 hours. Travel time is 45 minutes  Private taxis are available and all taxis have taximeters. Taxis accept Turkish Lira cash.
