INVITATION

Worldwide energy demand is increasing drastically. The European World Energy Technology and Climate Policy Outlook (WETO) predicts an average growth rate of 1.8% per annum for the period 2000-2030 for primary energy worldwide. Even though the reserves are limited, fossil fuels have been and will be the leading energy source to meet this demand for the upcoming decades. Nevertheless, a breakthrough in energy systems due to unavoidable depletion of world fossil fuel resources is expected as a shift from fossil fuels to more sustainable alternative fuels. Global strategies and action plans for the future alternative and sustainable energy sources are being prepared and adopted continuously, which advocate to raise the share of renewable energies and to develop measures relating to energy efficiency and sustainable energy sources while promoting alternative fuels.

In order to meet today’s global market requirements and tomorrow’s emission restrictions, it has been recognized by both academic and industrial environments that the introduction of new technologies is crucial for competitive energy and automotive industries. Since 2000, ICAT Conferences have undertaken a task of discussing, evaluating and sharing future and recent developments in alternative technologies for a sustainable future.

The fifth of this series, International Conference on Energy and Automotive Technologies – ICAT 2010 will be held on 5th of November 2010 at Four Seasons Hotel Ýstanbul at the Bosphorus in Istanbul. The main theme of this conference will be “Fossil Fuels: Today and Tomorrow – Special Focus on Sustainability and On-Road Transportation”.

The aim of this conference is to bring together people of different disciplines, to present and share the knowledge of new developments and the latest advanced technology outcomes. As state-of-the-art technologies and future trends of the fossil fuels will be discussed, a special focus will be placed on the need for greener and cleaner fuels for future automotive power train systems. Evaluations of the fossil fuel technologies will be done on a combustion-fuels-emissions triangle basis, discussing their processes in time and how alternative energy sources will be lined up in future.

Therefore, we invite you to contribute and to experience recent advancements in energy and automotive technologies by taking part in the ICAT’10.

We are looking forward to welcome you in Istanbul.
